Developed and implemented an overarching data modernization strategy that integrated SAP and Power BI into a centralized source of truth on Snowflake.

Accelerated month-end close and improved reconciliation accuracy by modernizing and automating critical data pipelines across the enterprise.

Created an SAP-to-Snowflake ingestion pattern that allows reporting suite profitability models to run without gaps or disruptions throughout the ECC to S/4HANA migration.

Challenge

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of bread and bakery products, the client for this engagement operates a complex global network spanning production, logistics, and sales across Europe and beyond. The company’s success depends on timely, accurate data to optimize operations and inform decisions across finance, supply chain, and manufacturing.

Unfortunately, the enterprise’s legacy reporting environment was in a state of data chaos that made it difficult to keep pace with the demands of a fast-moving business spanning multiple geographies. Teams across finance, supply chain, and operations were working in silos while relying on manual Excel imports, inconsistent data sources, and time-consuming reconciliation processes.

At the same time, the client faced a broader modernization challenge: preparing for its migration from SAP ECC to S/4HANA while ensuring that analytics continuity was maintained across its core reporting suite.

Month-end close and currency conversion processes added further complexity, introducing delays and potential for error across downstream systems. The client team needed a scalable, automated, and resilient data foundation that would not only solve immediate reporting challenges but also enable future innovation as the business continues to scale within Europe and across other geographies.

Solution

Hakkoda partnered with the client to design and execute a comprehensive data modernization strategy, built on Snowflake and seamlessly integrated with the company’s SAP systems and Power BI environment. The engagement began with stabilizing and automating critical pipelines to eliminate manual intervention and reduce operational noise. Hakkoda established direct data connectivity between business units and Power BI, removing the need for Excel imports and improving data reliability across operational areas.

By rethinking the client’s data refresh cycles as a key piece of this larger modernization initiative, Hakkoda aligned process runs with Power BI updates, ensuring that every dashboard surfaced the most current information available. Teams now start the day with fresh data, while finance has gained same-day visibility into SAP GL entries. This results in an accelerated month-end close process and enhances enterprise-wide trust in financial reporting.

To support the client’s SAP ECC to S/4HANA transition, Hakkoda also developed SAP data ingestion patterns for Snowflake that would ensure uninterrupted, enterprise-wide reporting could be maintained throughout the migration. This crucial capability gave the client the agility to modernize without risking business continuity.

Beyond operational performance, Hakkoda also engineered a new tagging solution to classify SKUs based on ingredients and sales volume, enabling the client to easily carve out reporting on its emerging healthy product line.
